Thank you to Rob Mills for this race report. Hope to see more Harriers competing at this local race next year.
The annual 10K race through the leafy suburbs of Bournville took place last Sunday, 29 September. It is popular with runners from the various local clubs and this year two Sparkhill Harriers took part in the event – Andy Wadsworth and me.
As usual it was very well organised with excellent marshalling and support around the course provided by our local rivals Bournville Harriers. The course itself is a two-lap challenging circuit that is multi-terrain with a couple of pretty muddy short sections owing to all the heavy rain in the run up to the race day. The long slog up Hole Lane from the Bristol Road is pretty challenging, particularly on the second lap. However the rain held off and the conditions were good for running. Andy had the foresight to bring along his trail shoes while I had to make do with my road shoes, though I am not suggesting this contributed to the disparity in our times!
274 runners completed the race among them:
Andy Wadsworth in 47:06 - overall position 60; 1st MV 60-64
Rob Mills in 52.48 – overall position 113; 2nd MV 65-69
One of the highlights of this race is the goodies bag which is stuffed full of chocolate and this year’s was up to scratch. I highly recommend this race especially if you are thinking of getting “match-fit” for the start of the cross-country season.
Thanks go out to Bournville Harriers for putting on this reliably very enjoyable race.
Rob Mills
